Gold Coast Water Polo Hosts Inaugural U12 Fun 5’s Day

On Sunday 12 January, Gold Coast Water Polo Association hosted the inaugural U12 Fun 5’s Day. It was an exciting event designed to grow the sport of water polo among younger athletes across various regions. The day brought together teams from Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour, and Alstonville. 

Held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Southport, the event saw a fantastic turnout, with 11 teams, over 80 young athletes, and more than 30 games played throughout the day. The U12 Fun 5’s format prioritised enjoyment and engagement, providing a welcoming environment for young athletes to experience the thril of water polo.

Results:

In the girls’ division, five teams competed:

  1. Mermaids – 1st place
  2. Gold Coast – 2nd place
  3. Alstonville – 3rd place
  4. River City 1 – 4th place
  5. River City 2 – 5th place

The boys’ division showcased thrilling matchups, with both the Gold Medal and Bronze Medal matches going to dramatic penalty shootouts:

  1. Alstonville – 1st place
  2. GC Blue – 2nd place
  3. GC Gold – 3rd place
  4. River City – 4th place
  5. Coffs Harbour – 5th place
  6. Barbarians – 6th place

The event highlighted the enthusiasm and talent of young players across the region, demonstrating the sport’s growing appeal.
