Three-time Olympian and Aussie Stingers captain, Bronwen Knox, will join Water Polo Queensland (WPQ) as the new Development Officer for South-East Queensland.
The Queenslander has had an outstanding career representing Australia at both Junior and Senior level. She was part of the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic teams who both won bronze medals and captained the side during the recent 2016 Rio Olympics.
“I’ve been incredibly lucky to have represented Australia at three Olympic Games and been a part of some incredible teams. Water Polo has been a big part of my life and I’ve always wanted to give back to the sport that has given me so much. When I heard about the opportunity at WPQ, I jumped at the chance to be a part of the team to deliver the exciting new vision for Water Polo in Queensland” said Knox.
With more than 15,000 participants, coaches, officials and volunteers across the state, WPQ is embarking on a new era that will take the game to more people and more communities and ensure Queensland is the home of Water Polo in Australia.
Knox’s role, as part of the newly created Participation & Pathways team, will be to work with schools and communities across the state to build awareness and grow participation in Water Polo. Having been involved with the sport since 14, Knox will bring invaluable insights about the various pathways available to new participants and how they can aspire to one day represent Australia at an Olympic Games.
WPQ Chief Executive Officer, Robert Donaghue, said: “We are delighted to have Bronwen join the Water Polo Queensland team; it’s an exciting appointment and will be a real boost to the Water Polo community across the state. Her knowledge, insights and expertise will help us encourage a new generation of kids across Queensland to take up Water Polo at their local schools and clubs.
Knox will take up her position in early January and her appointment is part of the recent expansion of the WPQ team that also includes the appointment of Isabella Andersson as the Competitions, Events & Club Services Coordinator and Anica Bussell as the Marketing & Communications Coordinator.
