BRISBANE TRITONS TO HOST PRIDE WATER POLO CLASH IN FORTITUDE VALLEY

Queensland’s LGBTI and inclusive water polo team the Brisbane Tritons will be hosting a Pride Water Polo Challenge against their interstate rivals in Fortitude Valley on July 1.

The competition will bring together the Tritons’ rivals the Sydney Stingers and the Melbourne Chargers as well as Australia’s brand new inclusive water polo team, the Perth White Pointers.

Spectators are welcome at the event at the Valley Pool between 12 and 5 pm on July 1, with all entry fees donated to charity.

“We started the Tritons less than two years ago and it’s amazing the growth in the team since then. We’re incredibly proud to host another event in Brisbane that showcases diversity and equality in sports,” Brisbane Tritons President Jeremy Archer said.

The Tritons praised the hard work of their coaches, training a large team of players with little water polo experience. Coaches Mel Rippon and Damien Hicks had their work recognised at the Inclusive Coach awards at Australia’s LGBTI Inclusion Awards last month.

Vice President Sean Langeveld said the creation of an inclusive female water polo team was also in the works.

“We’ve managed to build a successful men’s team, now we’re going to concentrate on creating a women’s team to compete in the upcoming Brisbane Water Polo competition,” he said.

The Brisbane Tritons encourage participants of any age, level or ability, to play water polo in a fun and social environment. If you’re interested in participating, contact the team at BrisbaneTritons@gmail.com or via their Facebook page.
