Covid-19 Update #5

Published Thu 23 Apr 2020

Dear Members of the Qld Water Polo Community,

Water Polo Queensland (WPQ) like so many organisations and businesses are in unchartered territory as we deal with the very real challenges presented by Covid-19. The impact on the entire sport and recreation sector has been substantial.

As a result, WPQ is undertaking a series of measures to ensure the ongoing sustainability and viability of the organisation and to preserve as many jobs as possible longer term.

From Friday 27th March, and on advice from the Federal and State Governments and Health Authorities, all WPQ Staff commenced a Work From Home (WFH) arrangement.

As of Monday 20th April, the WPQ operations has been scaled down and all WPQ staff will now be working reduced hours. This week has been challenging as we have worked through these changes with our passionate and hardworking staff.

While the full impact of COVID-19 is still very unknown, WPQ is committed to overcoming the challenges that lay ahead and returning our Staff to their previous roles as soon as possible in line with the directives provided by Government and Health Departments.

Like many other State Sporting Organisations, our focus during the past several weeks has clearly been on survival. However, we must now turn our attention to the revival of water polo across Queensland. We aim to do this in a collaborative and consultative way with our members and key stakeholders. We must now look to prioritise our energies into planning for the resumption of community water polo around the State when it becomes safe and practical to do so. We will be in contact with our Associations and Clubs over the coming weeks and offering any support we can to ensure we get our water polo community back into the water when the appropriate time comes.

During this difficult time, we ask for your patience and support as it may take a little longer than normal to respond due to the reduced working hours of our Staff. The easiest and most efficient way to contact the WPQ Staff is via email. However, if the matter is urgent please contact either myself or Jordan using the contact numbers listed below.

Active Queenslanders Industry Alliance is offering free access to a second Club Finance, Revenue & Legal webinar, providing administrators information and important advice on how to prevent financial ruin in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please note: This webinar is a repeat of the session held on April 8th, and will cover the same content.

The webinar will take participants through a four step process of understanding revenue shortfalls, budgeting, expenditure and preventative measures that should be put in place to protect your club’s short and long term future.

Due to the nature of the information provided, it is recommended that more than one member of your club join the webinar.

The Webinar will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at 6:30PM.

If you can’t make this time, please let us know and we will try to schedule another webinar at a time that suits.

To register, follow the link below and complete the registration form.
