Expression of Interest - Finance Representative, WPQ FARM Committee

The Management Committee of Water Polo Queensland Inc. (WPQ) is seeking to appoint an independent finance representative to be a member of the WPQ Finance, Audit, Risk and Management (FARM) Committee. Ideally this person would not have any connection with water polo and should have qualifications, skills and experience in finance and accountancy as a CPA or Chartered Accountant.
This position is a volunteer role and the time commitment involves four meetings per year held at the WPQ Office in Sports House, Milton or attendance via video or teleconference.
Role
The role of the independent finance representative is to provide financial expertise and impartial advice as a member of the WPQ FARM Committee to:
- Ensure the preparation and integrity of WPQ’s financial accounts, budgets and statements satisfy legal, regulatory and compliance obligations;
- Oversee the internal controls, policies and procedures of WPQ to identify and manage financial risks;
- Oversee the WPQ’s insurances and risk management policy and activities;
- Ensure the qualifications, independence, engagement, fees and performance of WPQ’s External Auditors satisfies the Associations Incorporations Act 1981 (Queensland) and Australian Accounting standards;
- Assist and facilitate the External Auditor’s preparation of WPQ’s annual audited accounts and financial statements; and
- Ensure WPQ’s financial management system, processes and procedures are effective, reviewed regularly and satisfy legal, regulatory and compliance obligations.
Key Skills and Profile
- CPA, CA or equivalent qualification
- Previous Board or executive committee experience
- Ability to demonstrate experience and understanding of modern governance principles (preferred)
- Member or graduate of the AICD (preferred)
