Queensland Thunder Look to Boom in 2020

After a successful first season in the Australian Water Polo League (AWL), the Queensland Thunder to commence their 2020 campaign. In 2019, the Thunder women’s team won the AWL title. Three time Olympian and captain Bron Knox says “2019 had just about everything… plenty of AWL debuts and junior players really maturing… 2020 though will bring new challenges as the Australian players prepare for the 2020 Olympics.”
Many of the 2019 players will be returning from international representation and tours over the winter and will be diving in to trials for the 2020 season. The Queensland Thunder women will have selection trials at Sommerville House pool on Saturday 5 October, and Sunday 6 October (7.30am – 10.30am and 3pm to 5.30pm both days).

Whilst the men’s team weren’t quite as successful as the premiership winning women, there was a lot to like about the future of the Queensland Thunder men. Finishing 6th in their first year, the team is looking to develop a strong team for the future and Coach and four time Olympian Dmitry Gorshkov is looking forward to the challenge of improving on last season’s results.
