School Boys Invitational Tournament

Published Thu 23 May 2024

The School Boys Invitational Tournament held on the 17th May 2024, saw an impressive turnout this year with 9 open teams and 6 middle school teams participating. The tournament attracted 185 athletes from 9 schools across Brisbane, ranging from Year 7 to Year 12. Held at Somerville House and Musgrave Pool, the tournament featured 31 thrilling games and showcased the talent and sportsmanship of young athletes from boys' schools in Brisbane.

A significant highlight of this year's tournament was the introduction of water polo to a new generation of athletes, with around 30% of the participants being new to the sport. This initiative highlights WPQ’s commitment to fostering a love for water polo and encouraging young athletes to engage in the sport.

The tournament was supported by 15 dedicated WPQ officials, ensuring the smooth running of the event and upholding the standards of competition. Their involvement was crucial in managing the games and providing guidance to the new athletes, helping them navigate the complexities of the sport.

WPQ is already looking ahead to next year, with plans to make the School Boys Invitational Tournament even bigger and better. The positive response from the athletes and schools this year is a testament to the growing interest in water polo within the community. WPQ aims to build on this momentum, offering more opportunities for young athletes to participate and excel in water polo.
